Places Of Worship Act 1991: Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Places of Worship Act 1991. The apex court has said that the hearing will be held after four weeks. During this time, no other petition will be filed to challenge this law.
Meanwhile apex court said that till the Supreme Court is hearing the case, no court will pass the final order. Also, now no court or lower courts will give any effective order. They will not give any order regarding the survey either.

Recently, a similar controversy arose in Sambhal, UP. Here local court had ordered a survey of the Sambhal Jama Masjid. Even though administration team had arrived to conduct the survey. During this, violence broke out due to some rumor, and four people lost their life it this incident. A bench headed by CJI Sanjeev Khanna was hearing this. In this petitioner has demanded the repeal of Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Places of Worship Act, 1991.

The Supreme Court said that as long as we are hearing this matter, no case will be registered anywhere in the country. CJI Sanjiv Khanna said that it is very important to know the stand of the Central Government in this matter. Till the next date, no new temple-mosque dispute will be filed. The Central Government should file an affidavit in this matter soon.

On this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Central Government, said that a reply will be filed in the matter soon. The CJI said that the Central Government's reply is necessary in this matter.

Meanwhile, RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha has said that his party has filed a petition in this matter. He said that by the time this law was made in Parliament, a generation had suffered a lot. In such a situation, there is a need to maintain the status quo.
