Airbus factory in Vadodara: On October 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, will inaugurate the Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL)-Airbus factory in Vadodara. Along with the factory launch, the two leaders will also hold a bilateral meeting during their visit. This event marks a significant milestone in India's aviation and defense manufacturing efforts.

Foundation of the Project

The foundation stone for this manufacturing facility was laid by PM Modi in October 2022, exactly two years ago. The factory will produce C-295 transport aircraft, which are crucial for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The initiative is part of the 'Make in India' campaign, aiming to boost domestic aircraft production.

Importance of the Tata-Airbus Project

The Tata-Airbus partnership will manufacture military transport aircraft in India, representing a new chapter for the defense sector. The facility will play a key role in replacing the aging Avro-748 planes of the IAF. The C-295 aircraft will be produced under a deal that India signed with Airbus in September 2021, worth nearly ₹21,000 crore.

Bilateral Meeting

Apart from inaugurating the factory, a vital bilateral meeting between PM Modi and PM Sanchez will take place in Vadodara. This meeting will further strengthen the ties between India and Spain, particularly in the defense and manufacturing sectors.

Tata-Airbus Deal and Manufacturing Plan

Under the agreement signed with Airbus, the first 16 C-295 aircraft will be delivered in a 'fly-away' condition from Seville, Spain, within four years. The remaining 40 aircraft will be manufactured and assembled in India by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. This partnership marks the first time a private company will be involved in military aircraft production in India.
