Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project
The second phase of this Project was developed by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, with the support of both the state and central governments. This phase is a crucial step in enhancing connectivity within Ahmedabad and its surrounding areas. The metro aims to reduce traffic congestion and provide a more efficient mode of travel for commuters.
Namo Bharat Rapid Rail (Formerly Vande Metro)
In addition to the metro inauguration, PM Modi is also launching India’s first Vande Metro, renamed Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, connecting Bhuj to Ahmedabad. This 12-coach rail will be operational for public use starting September 17, 2024. According to the Railway Ministry, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will connect the heart of Ahmedabad to its peripheral cities and provide a faster and more efficient alternative to suburban trains.
Other Key Development Projects
PM Modi's visit to Ahmedabad includes the launch of several development projects totaling over Rs.8,000 crore, covering sectors such as energy, roadwork, and housing. Key highlights include:
- Railway Development: Laying the foundation for the quadrupling of the Samakhiali-Gandhidham and Gandhidham-Adipur railway lines.
- Flyovers: The construction of flyover bridges at Bakrol, Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjarpol Junction.
Solar Energy Initiatives
PM Modi will also meet beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Gandhinagar's Vavol area. This scheme aims to provide free electricity to one crore households through rooftop solar units.
