PM Modi Inaugurates Suzuki eVitara, Announces Global EV Push

PM Narendra Modi announced that electric vehicles made in India will soon be exported to over 100 countries. Flagging off Suzuki’s eVitara from Gujarat’s Hansalpur plant, he highlighted India’s growing role in the global EV market, strong Japan-India ties, and the launch of the Critical Minerals Mission.

Made in India EVs to Power 100 Countries: PM Modi

Making a strong pitch for indigenous automobiles, PM Modi said electric vehicles manufactured in India will soon hit the roads of over 100 countries. “Now, the EVs running in dozens of countries will proudly carry the tag—Made in India,” he stated.

Suzuki EVs from Gujarat

PM Modi flagged off the eVitara, Suzuki’s global electric SUV, from the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. He underlined how Suzuki Japan’s decision to manufacture EVs in India reflects global trust in the country and strengthens India-Japan industrial ties.

Tackling Rare Earth Shortage

The Prime Minister also addressed the global shortage of rare earth minerals. He announced India’s Critical Minerals Mission, which will operate across 1,200 locations in the country to secure resources vital for EV and battery production.

Boost to Hybrid Technology

Alongside EV exports, PM Modi revealed that hybrid battery electrolyte manufacturing has begun in India. He called it a new milestone for the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision, adding that the announcement coincided with the festive spirit of Ganesh Utsav.

Maruti Suzuki’s 13-Year Journey

Reflecting on Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat journey, Modi compared its 13 years to the teenage years—an age of spreading wings and pursuing dreams. “In the coming days, Maruti will spread new wings with greater zeal,” he added.

Major Investments in EVs

On the same day, Maruti Suzuki India began production of its first global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)—the eVitara. Suzuki is set to invest Rs.70,000 crore in India over the next 5–6 years to boost production. PM Modi also inaugurated a lithium-ion battery plant, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki.
