Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Wayanad, which has been severely affected by landslides, today to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

PM Modi will arrive in Kannur at around 11 am, from where he will conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas in Kerala's Wayanad district.

Following the aerial survey, at around 12:15 pm, the Prime Minister will carry out an on-ground inspection of the landslide-hit areas. During this time, he will be briefed by rescue teams on the ongoing evacuation and relief operations.

PM Modi is also expected to visit a relief camp where more than 10,000 people have taken shelter.

After these engagements, the Prime Minister will hold a review meeting to receive a detailed briefing on the landslide incident and an update on the extensive relief efforts being coordinated in response to the disaster.

On Friday, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his gratitude to PM Modi on X by stating "Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision.

I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster."

The Prime Minister's visit comes after multiple MPs from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, including Rahul Gandhi, urged the Centre to declare the Wayanad landslides as a "national disaster." Such a declaration would pave the way for the release of additional funds for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
