Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is a housing scheme started by the Indian government to help poor families in rural areas build permanent (pucca) homes. This scheme is part of the government’s larger goal, which began in 2014, to ensure housing for all.
The rural version of the scheme was launched on November 20, 2016, especially for the poorest sections of society.

Scheme Timeline & Budget
- Originally, the aim was to build 2.95 crore houses by 2023-24.
- Now, the target is extended with 2 crore more homes.
- For 2024 to 2029, the government has planned a budget of ₹3,06,137 crore.
- For FY 2024-25, Rs.54,500 crore is allocated.
Who Can Apply for PMAY-Gramin? (Eligibility Criteria)
You can apply if:
- Your name is listed in the SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) data.
- You do not own a pucca house.
- You live in a kutcha house or are homeless.
You cannot apply if:
- You already own a pucca house.
- You own a car, bike, tractor, or agricultural tools.
- You have a Kisan Credit Card with a limit of Rs.50,000 or more.
- You pay income tax or professional tax.
- You are a government employee.
- You own a fridge, landline phone, or large land area.
Who Gets Priority Under This Scheme?
The scheme gives priority to:
- Scheduled Castes and Tribes (SC/ST)
- Homeless people
- Beggars, manual scavengers
- Freed bonded laborers

- Visit the official PMAY-G website.
- Fill in your personal details and give your consent.
- Select your name from the list.
- Provide your bank and scheme-related details.
- A government official will verify your application.
Documents Required for PMAY-G
- Aadhaar card
- MGNREGA job card
- Bank account details
- SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) number
- Affidavit stating you don’t own a pucca house
Last Date to Apply for PMAY-Gramin
Make sure you apply before December 31, 2025. The original deadline was March 31, 2022, but the government has extended it to complete pending homes. The rules and funding method remain unchanged.
