President Murmu Pays Tribute to Pope Francis: Pope Francis, the first non-European Pope in over 1,300 years, passed away on Monday at the age of 88. He was known worldwide for promoting peace and unity.

President Murmu Visits Vatican City
On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu visited the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City to offer her condolences. She paid homage to the late Pope on behalf of India.
Indian Leaders Accompany the President
President was joined by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State George Kurian, and Deputy Speaker of Goa Assembly Joshua De Souza.
India Declares Three Days of State Mourning
The Indian government declared three days of mourning to honour Pope Francis’ contributions. Flags were flown at half-mast during this time.
World Leaders to Attend Funeral
The funeral will take place on Saturday at St. Peter’s Square. According to the Vatican, 164 international delegations, including 54 heads of state, are expected to attend the ceremony.
