Prithvi Shaw Out for Duck on Maharashtra Ranji Debut Against Kerala
Prithvi Shaw ’s start to his Ranji Trophy journey with Maharashtra couldn’t have been worse. Facing Kerala in Trivandrum, Shaw was out lbw for a four-ball duck off pacer M.D. Nidheesh in the first over. Nidheesh struck again immediately, dismissing Siddesh Veer next ball, leaving Maharashtra reeling at 0/2 right after being put in to bat.

Switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra
Prithvi Shaw joined Maharashtra ahead of the 2025 domestic season, having received a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association in late June. His decision to move came after a turbulent phase marked by fitness and discipline concerns, which led to his exclusion from Mumbai’s Ranji squad last season.
Proven Track Record
Despite recent struggles, Shaw’s career numbers remain impressive. In 58 First-Class matches, he has scored 4,556 runs at an average of 46.02, highlighting his natural batting talent. However, his last appearance for Mumbai was during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final in December 2024 — signaling a pause in his otherwise promising domestic career.
Form vs. Perception
Across formats, Shaw continues to boast strong statistics — 3,399 List-A runs at an average of 55.72 and 2,902 T20 runs at a strike rate of 151.54. Yet, his inconsistency and off-field image seem to overshadow his numbers. Notably, Shaw went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, reflecting a growing gap between his talent and public perception.
Redemption Ahead?
The duck on debut may be a minor setback, but for the 25-year-old batter, the Ranji season offers a crucial chance to rebuild his career. A few strong innings could silence critics and remind fans of the explosive opener who once promised to be India’s next big star.
