Will Virat Kohli Return as Captain?
Virat Kohli, who led RCB from 2013 to 2021, is a strong contender for the role. He also captained the team in three matches during IPL 2023. With an impressive record of 68 wins in 143 matches as captain, Kohli remains one of the most experienced leaders in IPL history.
Rajat Patidar – A Potential Surprise Pick?
Another name in the mix is Rajat Patidar, who has been with RCB since 2021. At 31, he has captaincy experience with Madhya Pradesh in domestic tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. As one of RCB’s retained players, he could be considered for the leadership role.
RCB ’s Leadership Shift After Faf du Plessis
RCB is in search of a new captain after not retaining Faf du Plessis, who led the team from 2022 to 2024. The 40-year-old South African was not re-signed at the auction and has joined Delhi Capitals. Under his leadership, RCB had a mixed run but failed to secure the IPL trophy.

Despite being one of the most popular teams in the IPL, RCB is still chasing its first title. The team came closest in 2016 under Kohli, who was also the top scorer in IPL 2024 with 741 runs at a strike rate of 154.69.
