Red Alert in Mumbai as Heavy Rains Hit the City
Red Alert in Mumbai: On May 26, Mumbai and nearby areas faced heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar until 1 pm. Earlier, the alert was active till 9:45 am. This heavy rain caused waterlogging in some parts of the city.

Train Services Affected Due to Poor Visibility
Local trains on the Central and Harbour lines are running about 10 minutes late due to low visibility. Central Railways said there is no water on the tracks yet. Meanwhile, Western Railway claimed trains were running normally, but commuters shared complaints of delays on social media.
Rainfall Recorded in Different Areas
In 24 hours (ending 8 am), the island city received 58 mm rain, eastern suburbs got 19 mm, and western suburbs recorded 15 mm of rainfall. High tide is expected at 11:24 am (4.75 metres) and again at 11:09 pm (4.17 metres), while low tide is expected at 5:18 pm and 5:21 am tomorrow.
Orange Alert for MMR and Nearby Areas
The IMD has changed the alert for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) from yellow to orange. Thane and Palghar are also under an orange alert, while Navi Mumbai is under red alert till 9 am.
Rain Forecast for West Coast and Other Regions
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue along the west coast—covering Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Goa—for the next seven days. Kerala might see extremely heavy rain today.
Rain Warning in Delhi and the Northeast
Delhi is under an orange alert due to predicted rain and thunderstorms. Light showers were seen in parts of the capital in the morning. The maximum temperature could reach around 35°C, which is still cooler than usual for this season.
In the northeast, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to get heavy rain at isolated places until May 31.
