Remembering Ratan Tata: A Champion for Animals
Ratan Tata was well-known for his deep love and compassion for animals. Throughout his life, he showed kindness to stray animals and actively supported their welfare.
Social Media Advocacy
Tata often used his social media platforms to raise awareness about animal welfare. He shared heartwarming stories, including one about finding an abandoned dog near Sion Hospital in Mumbai. He took the dog into his care for treatment and appealed for information about its owner, demonstrating his commitment to helping animals in need.
A Heartfelt Choice
In 2018, Tata made headlines when he canceled a trip to London to receive a prestigious award from Prince Charles (now King Charles III). Instead, he chose to stay home to care for his sick dogs, Tango and Tito, saying, “I can’t leave him and come.” This showed how much he valued the lives of his pets.
A Call to Action
Tata also encouraged others to be mindful of animals during the monsoon season. He urged people to check under their cars before driving to avoid injuring stray cats and dogs seeking shelter. His message highlighted the importance of compassion for all living beings.
A Caring Legacy
Tata’s kindness extended beyond his home. At the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, a dog had made the entrance its resting place. When a visitor inquired, she learned that Ratan Tata had instructed the staff to treat all animals kindly, showcasing his caring nature.
The Small Animal Hospital
One of his last major contributions to animal welfare was the opening of the Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai on July 1, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility, covering 98,000 square feet and costing Rs.165 crores, provides emergency care, advanced diagnostics, and specialized treatments for pets. It continues to honor Tata’s love for animals.
