India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer was hospitalised after suffering a lacerated spleen while fielding in the third ODI match against Australia in Sydney on Saturday.

How the Injury Happened
The incident took place in the 34th over when Iyer ran backward to take a catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He landed awkwardly on his side and immediately clutched his ribs in pain. Medical staff rushed onto the field before he was taken to the hospital for further scans.
BCCI Confirms Shreyas Iyer ’s Condition
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement saying, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region. Scans revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is medically stable and recovering well.”
The medical team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his progress. The Indian team doctor will stay in Sydney with Iyer to check on his recovery daily.
No Timeline for His Return Yet
While Iyer is said to be doing better, the BCCI has not announced when he will be fit to return to the field.
India Wins Match But Loses Series
Despite the setback, India won the third ODI by nine wickets, though Australia clinched the series 2-1. The focus now shifts to the upcoming five-match T20 series starting Wednesday in Canberra.
