Shreyas Iyer 's Selfless Act: "Don't Worry About My 100," Tells Shashank Singh
Shashank Singh, the Punjab Kings batter, shared how his captain, Shreyas Iyer, put the team's success over his personal achievement. As the final over began, Iyer was unbeaten on 97, but instead of asking for a single to reach his first IPL century, he told Shashank to focus on scoring as many runs as possible.
"It takes a lot of heart and courage to say this because hundreds don't come easily in T20 cricket, especially in the IPL," Shashank said, praising Iyer’s team-first attitude.

Shashank Singh's Explosive Finish in the Last Over
During the final over, Shashank smashed 23 runs, helping Punjab Kings reach a strong total of 243/5. Although he couldn’t rotate the strike back to Iyer, his aggressive batting proved crucial in the team’s 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans.
"So obviously, the way Shreyas told me to go for big hits, that gave me even more confidence. It's a team game, but in such situations, it's rare to see such selflessness," Shashank added.
A Memorable Partnership
Iyer and Shashank built an unbeaten 81-run partnership in just five overs, giving Punjab Kings a strong finish. Shashank, who remained not out on 44 off 18 balls, credited Iyer for guiding him.
"I have known him for 10-15 years, and he has always been the same—calm and focused. He told me to stay balanced and play my natural shots, and by God’s grace, we finished well," Shashank said.
Shreyas Iyer Wins Player of the Match
Despite missing out on his century, Iyer was named Player of the Match for his outstanding 42-ball innings, which included nine sixes and five fours. His leadership and selfless approach played a key role in Punjab Kings' triumph.
