Six Youngsters Killed in Dehradun Car Crash: What Happened and the Investigation So Far
Six Youngsters Killed in Dehradun Car Crash: On the night of November 11, a tragic accident occurred in Dehradun, where six youngsters, including three women, lost their lives in a horrific crash. The accident took place near ONGC Chowk when their speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) collided with a container truck. One person survived the crash and is currently in a stable condition at the hospital.
The victims were aged 19 to 24 years, and their identities have been confirmed as Guneet Singh, Kamakshi Singhal, Navya Goyal, Rishabh Jain, Atul Agarwal, and Kunal Kukreja. The sole survivor of the crash, Siddhesh Agarwal, was hospitalized with injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.
How the Accident Happened
According to CCTV footage and witness statements, the group was traveling in a Toyota Innova at a speed of 100 km/h. The vehicle was reportedly new, as it did not have number plates. An investigating officer mentioned that the crash occurred after a luxury car overtook their vehicle at high speed, leading the driver of the Innova to accelerate in an attempt to catch up with the other car.
While the MUV was speeding, a container truck was crossing the intersection at a normal pace. The driver of the Innova misjudged the timing of the intersection, thinking they could pass before the truck, which was heading towards Kaulagarh from Kishangarh Chowk. The MUV collided with the left side of the truck, which is known to be a blind spot for large vehicles.
The Aftermath of the Crash
The collision resulted in the death of all six passengers in the Innova. Police officers stated that the driver of the MUV likely did not see the truck in time and was unable to avoid the crash.
As of now, no formal complaint has been filed by the families of the victims, which means no official case has been registered yet. The authorities are still investigating the matter and waiting for a complaint to proceed with further legal action.
Truck Driver's Role in the Accident
In the preliminary investigation, the container truck driver was found not to be at fault. The MUV struck the truck's rear left section, a blind spot that often makes it difficult for the truck driver to see other vehicles. The truck was moving at a normal pace, and the collision was a result of the MUV’s excessive speed and poor judgment by its driver.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, and police are awaiting a formal complaint from the victims' families to take the necessary legal steps. The authorities are also examining additional CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses to gather more details about the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
