Reports from the Associated Press (AP) revealed that buildings collapsed due to the quake. Taiwan's earthquake monitoring agency recorded the magnitude as 7.2, while the US Geological Survey estimated it to be 7.5.

According to Wu Chien-fu, head of Taipei's Seismology Centre, this quake is the strongest in 25 years. He compared it to the devastating 1999 earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.6 and claimed 2,400 lives.
Impact Beyond Taiwan
Witnesses in Shanghai, China, reported feeling the tremors. Chinese media also noted tremors in Fujian province's cities like Fuzhou, Ningde, Quanzhou, and Xiamen.
