Tragic Stampede at Goa’s Lairai Devi Temple: 6 Dead, Many Injured
A tragic stampede took place early Saturday morning during a popular temple festival in Goa. The incident happened around 3 am at the Shri Lairai Devi temple in Shirgaon village, located in the Bicholim area.

Thousands of people had gathered for the annual temple festival, known as Lairai Zatra, when chaos broke out. According to the police, one person fell on a steep path near the temple's entrance, which caused panic and a rush of people. This led to a deadly stampede.
At least six people lost their lives, and over 30 were injured. Among them, 10 are in critical condition and are being treated at Goa Medical College. Others are admitted to nearby hospitals including Mapusa and Bicholim health centres.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the injured and promised help to the affected families. He said an investigation has been ordered to find out how the incident happened.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sadness on social media and wished a quick recovery to the injured.

More than 1,000 police personnel had been deployed to manage the crowd, but the sudden fall and narrow path made the situation worse. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said extra doctors and a special ICU have been arranged to treat the injured.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also shared his condolences and called the incident heartbreaking. He wished a speedy recovery for all those hurt.
