Vasundhara Oswal Opens Up About Her Ugandan Jail Experience

Vasundhara Oswal, daughter of billionaire Pankaj Oswal, was arrested in Uganda in October last year for allegedly kidnapping and murdering one of her father’s employees. However, the alleged victim was later found alive in Tanzania, proving the charges to be false.

Denied Basic Rights and Legal Help

Oswal, 27, revealed that she was subjected to inhumane treatment in jail. She was detained without a proper warrant and taken to Interpol under force. Officers coerced her into giving a statement under the threat of indefinite detention, and she was denied access to a criminal lawyer.

Forced Detention and Bail Struggles

She was initially detained for five days and later imprisoned for two weeks. Despite paying USD 30,000 (over 25 lakhs) and submitting her passport for bail, she was not released. Instead, she was held illegally for another 72 hours before being formally charged with kidnapping and attempted murder.

Vasundhara Oswal Thrown into Prison with Criminals

Oswal was first placed in Luero Prison, which houses inmates convicted of petty crimes. After two days, she was moved to Nakhon Songola Prison, where serious criminals, including murderers and human traffickers, were kept. She spent two weeks in harsh conditions before getting bail.

Victim of Business Rivalries?

Oswal believes that business competitors were behind the false case. She claimed that her legal team faced interference, with rival groups allegedly bribing her lawyers to delay her bail process. Despite hiring around 20 lawyers, she faced multiple hurdles in securing her release.

Released After the Truth Came Out

The case took a dramatic turn when the supposed murder victim was found alive in Tanzania on October 10. Yet, authorities still refused to release her immediately. Eventually, on October 21, she was granted bail, bringing an end to her unjust imprisonment.
