Kohli Has Been Thinking About It for a While
Sources say that Kohli made up his mind during the Border-Gavaskar series. Even though he scored a century in one of the matches, his overall performance was below expectations—just 190 runs in five games.
His Recent Test Performance Has Dropped
In the last five years, Kohli has scored 1,990 runs in 37 Test matches with only three centuries. This is much lower than his earlier performances. The BCCI has asked him to reconsider, but Kohli seems firm on his decision.
Mental Pressure a Big Factor
Kohli spoke earlier about the mental stress he faces while playing. At an RCB event in March 2025, he said that outside pressure makes him feel desperate to perform, especially during tough tours like Australia.
Virat Kohli 's Impressive Test Career
Despite the recent dip, Kohli remains one of India’s best Test players. He has scored 9,230 runs in 123 Test matches at an average of 46.85.
Rohit Sharma Already Retired from Tests
This news comes shortly after Rohit Sharma officially retired from Test cricket. He announced it on Instagram, saying it was an honour to play for India in whites. He will still play One Day Internationals.
India Faces Big Decisions
With two senior players possibly out of the Test squad, India now needs to plan carefully for the England tour. The BCCI is still hoping Kohli will stay, but there’s no sign of him changing his mind yet.
