Shanghai Masters Upsets

In Shanghai, third-seeded Alexander Zverev was stunned by 54th-ranked Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round. Zverev appeared in control after the first set but failed to break Rinderknech again, giving the Frenchman a significant win.

This marks Rinderknech’s second big victory over Zverev this year, after their five-set thriller at Wimbledon. Rinderknech, 30, now heads into the fourth round to face Jiri Lehecka, who recently beat Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4.

Alex De Minaur Shines

Seventh-seeded Alex De Minaur defeated Kamil Majchrzak 6-1, 7-5 under humid Shanghai conditions. With this win, De Minaur records his 36th hard-court victory this season and aims for 50 tour-level wins in a year for the first time.

De Minaur will face Nuno Borges, who defeated Shang Juncheng 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3. “Every match here is a battle,” De Minaur said, highlighting the challenging conditions.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Continues

12th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Jesper de Jong 6-4, 7-5, showing solid form after slipping in the second set. He remains strong with a 10-2 record in August.

He will face eighth-seeded Lorenzo Musetti, who beat Luciano Darderi 7-5, 7-6(1).

Other Key Updates

Jannik Sinner retired mid-match against Tallon Griekspoor due to cramps, while top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz skipped Shanghai due to minor ailments.

American Learner Tien defeated Cameron Norrie 7-6(4), 6-3, making headlines as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
