'Wayanad cannot declared a national disaster', central government - Kerala has enough funds
The central government has refused to declare the land slide in Wayanad, Kerala as a national disaster. The Center informed Kerala that the landslide in Wayanad on July 30 cannot be declared a national disaster.
Along with this, the central government also said that the Kerala government has had adequate funds available for relief work.
While the Kerala government has been soughed assistance of Rs 900 crore from the Center for the relief and rehabilitation of the people. Those are affected by the land slide in the state.

It is worth noting that 231 people died and 47 others are still missing in the land slide in Wayanad in July 2024. About 900 families were displaced due to the land slide, leaving three settlements almost deserted.
Union Minister of State Nityanand Rai, in a letter to KV Thomas, Special Representative of the Kerala government in Delhi, said, "There is no provision to declare any disaster as a national disaster.

Kerala has enough funds: Central Government
In the meanwhile, the Union Minister said that the primary responsibility of disaster management lies with the state. Although the state government of Kerala, wrote a letter, to the central government regarding this. However, the first installment of Rs 145.60 crore was released on July 31 and the second installment of Rs 145.60 crore was released on October 1. Further, the Accountant General of Kerala has reported a balance of Rs 394.99 crore in the SDRF account as on April 1 this year.
The letter said that a team of the Central Government had visited the landslide affected areas and based on the report of the team, the Center had taken action as per the established procedure.
