Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on Dussehra across six states: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, and Gujarat. This warning comes ahead of the effigy burning ceremonies scheduled for the evening of October 12, urging devotees to prepare for potential weather disruptions during the Vijayadashami celebrations.

Extended Rainfall Predictions

The IMD has also predicted heavy downpours on October 13 in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In a bulletin dated October 11, the weather department noted favorable conditions for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from various states, including parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and others, by October 13.

Forecast for South Peninsular India

Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts “very heavy rainfall” in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on October 14 and 15. They also predict isolated heavy rainfall in Kerala and Mahe until October 18. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience similar conditions on October 14 and 15, while Rayalaseema is expected to see heavy rains from October 14 to 16. South Interior Karnataka may also have isolated heavy downpours on October 12, 15, and 16.

Rainfall Predictions for Northeast and East India

The IMD's latest press release indicates that isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh on October 12 and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on October 13.

Delhi Weather Update

In the capital, Delhi, the Regional Meteorological Centre forecasts mainly clear skies until October 18, with maximum temperatures around 34 degrees Celsius and minimums around 19 degrees Celsius.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 152 in the 'moderate' category for Delhi, while Mumbai registered an AQI of 57, categorized as 'satisfactory.'
