Mass Resignation in Gujarat Cabinet

In a dramatic turn of events, every minister in the Gujarat government—except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel—has resigned. The announcement was confirmed by state government spokesperson Rishikesh Patel. Sources suggest the resignations pave the way for a fresh team to be inducted soon.

The new cabinet will be sworn in at the Mahatma Mandir tomorrow. The reshuffle is expected to bring new faces and a stronger focus on governance ahead of the upcoming local body and assembly elections.

Who All Gujarat Ministers Resigned?

A total of 16 ministers have stepped down—eight cabinet ministers and eight ministers of state.

Cabinet ministers who resigned include Kanubhai Desai, Rishikesh Patel, Raghavji Patel, Balvantsinh Rajput, Kunwarji Bavaliya, Mulubhai Bera, Kuber Dindor, and Bhanuben Babaria.

Political Context in Gujarat

The BJP achieved a record victory in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, winning 156 out of 182 seats. Later, with Congress MLAs switching sides, the party’s tally rose to 162. Despite a comfortable majority, the resignations indicate a potential realignment of responsibilities and leadership within the ruling party.

Upcoming Elections Ahead

Local body elections in Gujarat are expected in early 2026, followed by Assembly elections in 2027. Political analysts believe this reshuffle could be a strategic move to refresh the government’s image and strengthen the BJP’s position well before the polls.
