World Chess Championship: D Gukesh lost first match to Ding Liren ,Chinese player took a 1-0 lead
The Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has lost the first match of the ongoing World Chess Championship in Singapore. He was defeated by defending champion Ding Liren. After this defeat, the Indian star has fallen behind 0-1 in the 14-match match. While this is the first time in the history of the World Chess Championship that two Asian players are competing against each other to become the world champion.

The 18-year-old Gukesh started with white pieces. He made a mistake by moving the pawn in front of the king two squares at the beginning of the game. Liren responded to this with the 'French Defense'.

Gukesh adopted the same strategy that Vishwanathan Anand had adopted when he won the first World Championship title against Spain's Alexei Shirov in 2001.Gukesh had an advantage of half an hour till the 12th move, but after 8 moves Liren got extra minutes, which proved that he had overcome his initial challenge. After this, he made a strong comeback and won in 42 moves.

Although Gukesh and Ding will get 1 point for winning a game and 0.5 points for a draw. 7.5 points are needed to win the championship. If the score remains tied after 14 rounds, then the winner will be declared through tiebreakers with faster time control.

He will become the second Indian to do so. Vishwanathan Anand has become world champion 5 times.
Gukesh won the Candidates Chess Tournament in Toronto in April. He became the youngest player (17 years) to do so.
Who is D Gukesh?
Gukesh D's full name is Domaraju Gukesh, and he is a resident of Chennai. Though he started playing chess at the age of 7. He was initially coached by Bhaskar Nagaiya. Nagaiya has been an international level chess player and is a home tutor of chess in Chennai. However, former world champion, Vishwanathan Anand coached Gukesh.
