On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged in Uttarayan celebrations, starting with prayers at the Lord Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In the spirit of the festival, he also flew kites with supporters in Vejalpur. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel kicked off the day with a week-long drive to clean religious sites across the state, aligning with the Makar Sankranti festivities. As part of this initiative, he personally cleaned the premises of a temple near Gandhinagar.

Various political leaders and public figures joined in the Uttarayan celebrations, taking to the terraces of buildings to fly kites with family and friends. Amit Shah not only offered prayers at the Lord Jagannath temple but also participated in kite-flying activities in Vejalpur. Later in the day, he is scheduled to partake in Uttarayan festivities in two Assembly seats in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Expressing his wishes on the occasion, Amit Shah conveyed, "ઉત્તરાયણના પાવન પર્વની સૌને હાર્દિક શુભકામનાઓ. આ પાવન પર્વ આપના જીવનમાં સુખ, સમૃદ્ધિ અને ઉત્તમ સ્વાસ્થ્ય પ્રદાન કરે." (Best wishes to everyone on the auspicious festival of Uttarayan. May this auspicious festival bring happiness, prosperity and good health in your life.)

In his message on X, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, "“સ્વચ્છતા ત્યાં પ્રભુતા” અયોધ્યા ખાતે ભગવાન શ્રી રામના ભવ્ય મંદિરની પ્રાણ પ્રતિષ્ઠાનો પવિત્ર અવસર આગામી તા.૨૨મી જાન્યુઆરીના રોજ યોજાવાનો છે, જેના સંદર્ભે માનનીય વડાપ્રધાન શ્રી નરેન્દ્રભાઈ મોદીએ દેશભરના તમામ નાના મોટા ધર્મસ્થાનોની સ્વચ્છતાનું અભિયાન હાથ ધરવાનું દેશવાસીઓને આહવાન કર્યું છે. માનનીય વડાપ્રધાનશ્રીના આ આહવાનને ઝીલી લઈને ગુજરાતમાં આપણે તમામ ધાર્મિક સ્થળોને સ્વચ્છ અને સુઘડ બનાવવા તા. ૧૪ થી ૨૨ જાન્યુઆરી સુધી સફાઈ અભિયાનનું રાજ્યવ્યાપી જનઅભિયાન શરૂ કર્યું છે. જે અંતર્ગત, આજે મકરસંક્રાંતિના દિવસે ગાંધીનગર નજીકના ધોળેશ્વર મહાદેવ મંદિરે દર્શન કરીને મંદિર પરિસરના સફાઈ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી થવાનો અવસર મળ્યો. આપ સૌ ધાર્મિક સ્થાનોની સ્વચ્છતાના આ અભિયાનમાં જરૂર જોડાવ તેવો ભાવભર્યો અનુરોધ કરું છું."
