8th Pay Commission: Discussions about the 8th Pay Commission are rife among central government employees. Every government employee is naturally curious to know how much their salary will increase and what the arrears calculations will be after the new Pay Commission is implemented. However, cybercriminals are now taking advantage of this curiosity. Internet fraudsters have woven a new and extremely dangerous trap to steal government employees' hard-earned money. If you've received a message asking for a salary increase, beware. This could pose a significant threat to your life savings.

Eagerness to know your salary can prove costly

These days, a large number of government employees and pensioners are receiving a suspicious message on WhatsApp. The message claims to download the accompanying file to find out how much your salary will increase after the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. This message appears so official and tempting that anyone could fall for it. Cybercriminals often send an .APK (application file) or suspicious PDF with this message. Their primary objective is to steal your personal information and gain remote access to your mobile.

One wrong click can lead to hackers taking over your mobile

It's crucial to understand the seriousness of this fraud. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), an organization under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has issued a strict warning regarding this matter. According to I4C, once a user installs the .APK file on their phone, tempted to calculate their salary, they unknowingly give hackers complete control of their phone.

Never Make This Mistake

The cyber security agency I4C, through its official "Cyber Dost" handle, has clarified that the Government of India or any department never sends any kind of application (.APK) via WhatsApp or email. The government has clarified that for any information related to the Pay Commission or pension, only use official channels.

Summary

The most effective way to avoid fraud is to avoid downloading files from unknown numbers. Especially, stay away from .APK files, as these directly integrate with your phone's operating system. If you need any official information related to the 8th Pay Commission, visit only the government's official website, https://8cpc.gov.in.
