The makers of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge have landed in legal trouble after Trimurti Films filed a lawsuit against B62 Studios, the banner of director Aditya Dhar, over alleged unauthorised use of a song.

Row over ‘Rang De Lal’ usage

According to a report by Bar and Bench, the dispute relates to the song ‘Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)’ from the 1989 film Tridev.

The track was co-composed by Kalyanji–Anandji along with Viju Shah, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee.

Trimurti Films has alleged that the song, or a substantially similar version, has been used in the film without obtaining the required licences.

Claims of copyright infringement

The company has claimed ownership and control over the musical work and sound recording.

It has alleged that the usage amounts to copyright infringement, including unauthorised reproduction and public communication of the track.

The suit seeks an injunction to restrain further use of the song, along with damages and other reliefs. It also raises concerns over the track’s commercial use across theatrical release, streaming platforms and promotional content.

Film continues strong box office run

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios.

The spy action thriller stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role and serves as a sequel to Dhurandhar.

The film traces the origin story of his character Jaskirat Singh Rangi and his transformation into Hamza Ali Mazari.

The ensemble cast includes Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun, with Danish Pandor and Udaybir Sandhu in key roles. The film also features a cameo by Yami Gautam.

Despite the legal dispute, the film has continued its strong box office performance and has reportedly crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in India.
