Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up on Playing Lord Rama in Ramayana
Ranbir Kapoor speaks on playing Lord Rama in Ramayana, says his Dharma is to act with honesty and truthfulness.
Actor Ranbir Kapoor has begun promotions for director Nitesh Tiwari’s film Ramayana, with special screenings held in Los Angeles and New York.
Kapoor, along with Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, attended a screening for a select audience in New York on Tuesday after unveiling the first glimpse titled ‘Rama’ in Los Angeles.
Speaking at the event, Kapoor opened up about initially turning down the role of Lord Rama.
"I remember when Namit offered me this part around 4 years ago, my instant reaction was 'No', I'm not fit enough, not good enough and I won't be able to do full justice."
He later spoke about the responsibility associated with portraying the character.
"As an actor, my Dharma is to do my job in the best way possible with honesty and truthfulness. There's a beautiful saying in our scriptures which translates to Dharma protects those who uphold it. As an artist, it is my job to honestly approach my work with the responsibility of hundreds and billions of Indians and other cultures who are going to see this film."
Kapoor also addressed the broader message of the film.
"Ramayana gives you so much to learn. Nitesh sir had mentioned earlier that the times we are in the world right now, it won't hurt us to understand empathy, love and equality. It's very important in the world right now."
The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
The first glimpse ‘Rama’ will release in India on April 2. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026.
