Indigo Crisis: Chaos at Airports Across the Country, 500 Indigo Flights Cancelled

Indigo Flight Cancellations Updates: The crisis at India's largest airline, IndiGo, continues for the eighth day, with approximately 500 flights cancelled across the country today. ​​The cancellation of over 4,500 flights in the past week has caused continuous difficulties for passengers. After more than 4,500 IndiGo flights were cancelled in a week

Many passengers are still waiting for their flights at Delhi's IGI Airport for several hours. This crisis began after changes were made to pilots' flight duty and regulations. 38 flights were cancelled from Shamshabad Airport today, causing significant distress to passengers. Earlier on Monday, more than 250 flights were cancelled from Delhi and Bengaluru airports. 26 IndiGo flights were cancelled at Lucknow airport on Monday. However, the number of cancelled flights has been decreasing over the past four days.

Government will cut the airline's winter schedule

Today, 152 planned IndiGo flights were cancelled at Delhi's IGI Airport, including 76 departures and 76 arrivals. - In the IndiGo case, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has sent 10 officers to different airports to monitor the situation. These officers will remain there for the next 2-3 days and will monitor the steps taken to help the people. Chaos at Airports Across the Country

Meanwhile, the government has adopted a tough stance. Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said on Monday that the government will cut IndiGo's winter flight schedule and its slots will be allocated to other operators. He said, "We will be cutting down on IndiGo's routes. They are currently operating 2,200 flights. We will definitely be reducing those." Naidu also stated that a refund of ₹745 crore has been issued for 7,30,655 PNRs (Passenger Name Records) that were canceled between December 1 and December 8 (until 5 PM). Additionally, 6,000 out of 9,000 passenger bags have been delivered, and the remaining will be delivered by tonight or Tuesday morning.

IndiGo apologizes, DGCA to take action

The aviation safety regulator DGCA said on Monday that it has received responses to the show-cause notices issued to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras. The regulator stated that the airline has expressed "deep regret" and apologized for the inconvenience caused to customers. The DGCA is now examining the responses and will take enforcement action as deemed appropriate.
