Naraka Chaturdashi 2023: What does this day mean and why is it significant?
Choti Diwali, also known as Naraka Chaturdashi, is the next day of the five-day Diwali festival. Choti Diwali is celebrated one day before Deepawali, so it fell on Saturday, November 11, 2023 this year. Naraka Chaturdashi is celebrated to commemorate the defeat of good over evil. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura on this day and saved nearly 16000 gopis. In West Bengal, the day is known as Bhoot Chaturdashi, and it is celebrated by lighting 14 diyas in remembrance of a family's 14 ancestors.
