On New Year's Eve, alcohol sales in Delhi saw a noteworthy surge, with 24 lakh bottles sold, an 18% rise over the same period in 2022. The Excise Department's official statistics indicate that in December 2023, 635 vends in Delhi sold a total of 4,97,80,240 (4.97 crore) bottles. This represents a significant increase from the 3, 99,60,509 (3.99 crore) bottles sold through 520 stores in December 2022. On December 5, 2023, the fewest number of bottles sold was 12,84,222 (12.84 lakh), compared to 13,81,531 (13.81 lakh) on the same day in the previous year. The numbers from December 4, 2022, which represented the lowest sales of that year with 9,03,835 (9.03) lakh bottles sold, were nevertheless exceeded by those from this year.
