An awkward situation arose during the convocation ceremony at Haridev Joshi University in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, when a student made a sarcastic remark right on the stage while receiving her degree from Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa. Addressing the packed stage, the student declared, "Thank you very much for granting us honor after humiliating us." However, this comment was not directed at the Deputy CM, but rather served as a jibe at the university administration in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, who was also present on the stage. This statement stunned everyone present at the ceremony, and the video clip of the incident is now rapidly going viral across social media platforms.

Amidst the chaos, a female student took a dig at the administration from the stage, remarking, "Thank you for granting us honor after humiliating us"—a moment captured in a video that has since gone viral.

"Thank you for granting us honor after humiliating us’’

The atmosphere had, in fact, already become tense during the university's third convocation ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Rajasthan International Centre. During the event, degrees were conferred on the stage to only 12 gold medalists, while the remaining students were denied the opportunity to step onto the dais. Angered by this disparity, the students began to protest. As the commotion escalated, some students tore up documents and shouted slogans right at the venue. The situation worsened further after the ceremony concluded, when several students lay down in front of Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa's vehicle as he was attempting to leave.

Student's Sarcastic Remark to Rajasthan Deputy CM

As the uproar intensified, police personnel arrived at the scene and immediately detained the students. To bring the situation under control, the Deputy Chief Minister himself had to return to the auditorium. Subsequently, degrees were distributed to the remaining students as well, and the administration attempted to pacify the situation by engaging in a dialogue with the students. It was during this renewed degree distribution process that the student, Sara Ismail, took a dig at the university administration from the stage, sarcastically expressing her "heartfelt thanks to the university for granting us honor after humiliating us."

The statement made in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister and the Vice-Chancellor turned the entire ceremony into a subject of widespread discussion. It is worth noting that the student, Sara, is an alumna of this very university and has previously served as the Vice-President of its Student Union.

Controversy erupted over the distribution of degrees

Commenting on the incident, Sara Ismail stated that she had arrived at the convocation ceremony with the expectation of receiving her degree with dignity; however, she felt humiliated when only a select few students were invited onto the stage. Moreover, the students were accompanied by their families, who had come specifically to witness their children receive their degrees. When they, too, were met with disappointment, this simmering resentment eventually manifested in the form of a protest and a sharp backlash.

Summary

The student further remarked that the degrees were subsequently distributed in a manner that made it seem as though charity was being doled out—despite the fact that she and her peers had toiled for three years to earn them. Meanwhile, Dr. Ratan Singh Shekhawat, an Assistant Professor at the university, described the incident as highly reprehensible. He asserted that the students should not have acted in such a manner, noting that the entire program had been organized strictly in accordance with established protocol. He added that if any students had objections, they should have addressed them to the university administration; behaving in such a manner in the presence of distinguished dignitaries was inappropriate.
