According to a information issued by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was held today in Surat—under the chairmanship of Union Minister Shri C.R. Patil—for the widening of the existing railway overbridge situated on the 90-meter-wide State Highway connecting Surat to Navsari via Sachin, located within the South Zone-B (Kanakpur) area.
The estimated cost for this project stands at ₹3,539.77 lakh. Furthermore, a pond, a Primary Health Center, and 'Shanti Kunj'—constructed at an estimated cost of ₹912.93 lakh—were inaugurated. Additionally, the groundbreaking ceremony for various projects, estimated to cost ₹8,017.68 lakh, was also successfully concluded.
Addressing the gathering during this event, and extending his wishes on World Water Day, Shri C.R. Patil stated that he had never even imagined he would have the opportunity to inaugurate this bridge. There remains a constant concern regarding the growing population of this region and its healthcare needs; indeed, no other municipal corporation in the world manages these aspects as effectively as the Surat Municipal Corporation. During the tenure of Shri Pareshbhai Patel as the Chairman of the Standing Committee, approval was granted for the construction of a 50-bed hospital in every ward.
This served as an excellent example of the Surat Municipal Corporation’s leadership across all sectors. Only a few cities—such as Surat—are home to facilities like the SMIMER Hospital, medical colleges, public-private partnership hospitals, and medical colleges operated by the municipal corporation itself.
It is a matter of immense pride that the SMIMER Hospital is equipped with medical infrastructure and facilities on par with the Civil Hospital. The entire citizenry of Surat is striving to ensure that the city's development remains uninterrupted and that it achieves holistic progress. Within the education sector, arrangements have been meticulously designed to ensure that no child is deprived of schooling; notably, Surat stands as the only municipality in the country where education is imparted in seven different languages.
Shri Patil further remarked that Surat is a frontrunner in terms of infrastructure. The Surat Municipal Corporation has constructed approximately 6,000 rainwater harvesting structures, thereby playing a pivotal role in mitigating the issue of water scarcity within the city. The metropolis of Surat has grown accustomed to consistently securing the top spot in every endeavor. The entire nation is well aware of the unwavering resolve with which our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, approaches the issue of cleanliness. Back when Surat was a city plagued by filth and squalor, Shri Modi had declared that the city must be transformed into a clean and hygienic metropolis. Powered by the decisions taken during his three-day visit—and the strategic planning undertaken in collaboration with administrative officials—Surat was successfully transformed into a clean city in a mere three days.
"If Indore consistently secures the first position in cleanliness, why shouldn't Surat?
At that time, he assured the Prime Minister that, this time, they would propel the city to the top spot in the nation for cleanliness. Driven by the unwavering resolve and dedication of all the citizens of Surat, the city indeed achieved the first rank in the country for cleanliness. Shri C.R. Patilji called upon everyone to work together to sustain this clean Surat.
Addressing the gathering during this event—and extending his wishes on World Water Day—Shri C.R. Patilji remarked that he had never even imagined he would have the opportunity to inaugurate this bridge. There remains a constant concern regarding the growing population of this region and its health; indeed, no other municipal corporation in the world could manage this responsibility as effectively as the Surat Municipal Corporation does.
During the tenure of Shri Pareshbhai Patel as the Chairman of the Standing Committee, approval was granted for the construction of a 50-bed hospital in every ward. This stood as an excellent testament to the Surat Municipal Corporation's leadership and pioneering spirit across various sectors. Only a select few cities—such as Surat—are home to facilities like SMIMER Hospital, medical colleges, a blend of private and government hospitals, and medical colleges operated directly by the municipal corporation. It is a matter of immense pride that SMIMER Hospital is equipped with medical infrastructure and facilities on par with those found in the Civil Hospital.
The entire populace of Surat is striving to ensure that the city's development remains uninterrupted and that it continues to achieve holistic progress. Within the education sector, comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure that no child is deprived of schooling; notably, Surat stands as the only municipality in the country where education is imparted in seven distinct languages.
Shri Patil..." Mr. Patilji further stated that the Surat Municipal Corporation building ought to be the tallest building in the world. Consequently—acting upon this vision—two 28-story buildings have been constructed in Surat. All residents of Surat should take pride in this 'Mini Secretariat,' which will house all state government offices and provide parking facilities for over 5,000 vehicles.
Surat is the only city to have made advance preparations to meet its water requirements for the next 50 years—an achievement that is poised to set a world record.
Furthermore, the upcoming Bullet Train service connecting Surat to Bilimora stands as yet another source of pride for the city. Mr. Patilji expressed his confidence that the cooperation and suggestions of all stakeholders would play a pivotal role in the rapid development of the Surat Municipal Corporation.
A large number of party workers attended the event, alongside dignitaries including City President Mr. Pareshbhai Patel, MP Mr. Mukeshbhai Dalal, MLA Mr. Sandipbhai Desai, MLA Mrs. Sangitaben Patil, former Mayor Mr. Daksheshbhai Mavani, Mr. Rajanbhai Shah, and IAS officer Mr. Torawane.
