On National Unity Day, PM Modi paid tribute to him: Why is this day significant?

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel's statue in New Delhi's Patel Chowk.

The birth anniversary is celebrated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Divas,' which is marked by a 'Run for Unity' rally flagged off by Shah from the national capital's Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. A Unity oath was administered after the flagging off. Amit Shah recalled Sardar Patel's contribution to national unity and stated that the country's first Home Minister is the reason for a united India. During his speech, Shah mentioned how Sardar Patel worked to unite all the principalities the British had divided at the time of India's independence.

What is 'Rashtriya Ekta Divas?

This day honors Patel's contributions to maintaining India's unity and celebrates the nation's unity.
