Sri Lanka national cricket team captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand national cricket team in Colombo.

The match is being played in clear weather conditions. Sri Lanka made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Charith Asalanka in place of Kamil Mishara. After losing to England in their opening Super Eight fixture, Sri Lanka need victories in both remaining matches to progress to the semifinals.

New Zealand are playing their first game in Sri Lanka after their previous match against Pakistan was washed out. The surface is dry and is expected to assist seam bowlers.

New Zealand also made one change. Seam bowling allrounder Jimmy Neesham was left out, with offspinner and batter Cole McConchie included in the XI.
