Uproar Over Batman Edition... Mahindra Will Refund Money in Exchange for the Car

Mahindra, one of the country's leading automotive manufacturers, recently launched a second batch of the new, special 'Batman Edition' of its popular BE 6 electric car. However, this move became a source of trouble for the company. While new customers welcomed the launch with enthusiasm, buyers from the first batch were angered by the decision. Now, in light of the customers' outrage, the company has taken a major step by introducing a buyback offer.

Following this, customers from the first batch expressed their displeasure, arguing that a "limited run" model cannot be launched repeatedly.

Why the Buyback Offer Was Necessary

Essentially, the company had launched the BE 6 Batman Edition in August 2025, marketing it as a "limited run" model and stating that only 999 units would be produced. Notably, all these units sold out within just a few minutes. However, approximately seven months later—on March 6, 2026—the company launched a second batch of this very same special edition. This led customers from the first batch to feel that the company had deceived them under the guise of a "limited edition." Consequently, customers took to social media to heavily criticize this decision.

Despite the customers' outrage, the second batch of the BE 6 Batman Edition also sold out within minutes of its launch. This time, the price had even been hiked by approximately ₹70,000; yet, there was no visible decline in demand. Nevertheless, the anger of the early buyers continued to escalate.

Company's Major Decision

Taking the customer response into account, Mahindra & Mahindra has now announced a full buyback offer for customers who purchased from the first batch. This means that if any customer wishes to return their car, they may contact the company to do so. To avail of this offer, customers will need to get in touch with their nearest dealership. The company has clarified that this offer will be valid for only 30 days, starting from March 18, 2026.

What's Special About the Batman Edition?

The BE 6 Batman Edition features a 'Dark Knight' theme, giving it a unique aesthetic. Batman badges adorn the car's exterior, while the same theme is carried through to the interior cabin. However, no changes have been made to its powertrain. It is equipped with a 79 kWh battery pack, capable of delivering a range of up to 682 kilometers on a single charge. It features a rear-mounted electric motor that generates 286 hp of power and 380 Nm of torque.
