IPL 2026: The BCCI has implemented stringent regulations for IPL 2026. Practice sessions on match days will be completely prohibited; players will be required to travel exclusively via the team bus, and access for family members has been restricted. Rules regarding LED boards, dress codes, and staff limits have also been tightened. Provisions are in place for both warnings and fines in the event of rule violations.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued new and rigorous guidelines for IPL 2026. The objective of these regulations is to enhance discipline, regulatory compliance, and broadcast quality throughout the tournament.

The most significant change is that no team will be permitted to conduct practice sessions on match days. The BCCI has taken this decision to preserve pitch quality and to better manage the demanding tournament schedule.

Practice on match days has been completely banned. Consequently, teams will now be required to complete their preparations in advance. According to the new guidelines, teams must conduct their preparations strictly within the designated training windows prior to a match. On match days, neither net practice nor any fitness drills on the main square will be permitted.

Specific regulations regarding practice sessions have been formulated for major venues, such as Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Each team will be allotted two nets and one side wicket on the main square for range-hitting practice. If both teams are practicing simultaneously, they will each be allocated two wickets.

Strict Restrictions on Family and Friends; Entry into Dressing Room Banned

The BCCI has also restricted access for players' family members and friends. Now, only authorized staff members will be permitted to enter the dressing room and the field of play; family and friends will be able to watch practice sessions only from the hospitality area. Furthermore, accompanying players during travel to practice sessions will not be permitted. This measure has been implemented to maintain a professional team environment and to prevent distractions.

Mandatory Travel via Team Bus; Ban on Private Vehicles

For IPL 2026, every player will now be required to use the designated team bus for commuting to and from the stadium. The use of private vehicles has been discontinued. Teams may travel in two separate batches if necessary. Furthermore, family members are required to travel in a separate vehicle; this rule has been implemented specifically with logistics and security considerations in mind.

Strict Scrutiny on Broadcasts and Presentations

The BCCI has also adopted a strict stance regarding player conduct during matches and broadcast visibility. Players are prohibited from hitting the ball directly at the LED boards, and sitting in front of the LED boards has also been banned. A designated seating area will be allocated for substitute players.

These Rules Have Also Changed for IPL 2026

1. Wearing the Orange and Purple Caps will be mandatory (at least until the completion of the opening overs).

2. Floppy hats and sleeveless jerseys are banned during post-match presentations.

3. Rule violations will result in a warning first, followed by a fine.

4. Match Day Protocols: Limited staff and strict security checks.

5. Only 12 support staff members (including doctors) are permitted on match days.

6. It is mandatory for every staff member to carry their accreditation card.

7. A warning for the first offense; a fine for the second.

Rules Regarding Jersey Number Changes

If a player decides to change their jersey number, they must notify the BCCI at least 24 hours in advance. This ensures that there are no discrepancies in broadcast coverage and digital records.
