The Pakistan team's players will now have to bear the brunt of their poor performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 directly from their own pockets. According to media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a tough stance and decided to impose fines on every player on the team. This action comes after the team's Super 8 exit from the World Cup and the crushing defeat to Team India in the group stage.

This strict measure comes after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive ICC tournament. Pakistan also suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of India.

Each player has been fined 5 million Pakistani rupees

According to media reports, each Pakistani player who played in the T20 World Cup has been fined 5 million Pakistani rupees (approximately 1.6 million Indian rupees). This amount will be deducted from the players' salaries or match fees. The PCB will recover this money itself.

For the fourth consecutive ICC tournament, Pakistan has failed to reach the semi-finals. The board has sent a clear message that poor performance will now translate directly into financial losses. Strict action has been taken against Pakistan in the past, but this time, such a large fine has become a topic of discussion.

Tournament Performance

Pakistan played all its matches in Sri Lanka, but could not capitalize on the home-like conditions. They initially defeated the Netherlands by 3 wickets, although that match was also very close. They then defeated the United States by 32 runs.

But a crushing 61-run defeat against India exposed the team's weaknesses. Despite this, Pakistan managed to reach the Super 8.

Super 8 Final Failed

The story changed completely in the Super 8 Finals. The match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain. They were then defeated by England by 2 wickets. They did win against Sri Lanka, but a poor net run rate prevented them from advancing to the next round.

Overall, the team's performance was below expectations, and now the players will have to bear the financial consequences.

Defeat to India made Naqvi a laughingstock

In fact, before this World Cup, Pakistan had created a lot of drama. Pakistan had announced a boycott of its match against Team India. PCB Chief Naqvi's drama continued for several days. But finally, Pakistan relented, and when they faced India, Team India defeated them badly. This defeat made Pakistan a laughingstock in their own country. Therefore, the PCB is deeply upset with its players.
