On Wednesday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck northwestern Afghanistan. The German Research center for Geosciences said that the center of the earthquake was at the depth of 10 km.

No damages and loss of lives are reported until now.

This earthquake comes after another earthquake of 6.3 magnitude shook the country on Saturday. The major earthquake hit the city of Herat incurring massive loss of life and property.

More than 2000 people were reported to be dead in the destruction caused by Earthquake. The earthquake caused widespread destruction by bringing down homes and wiping whole families and leaving children orphan.

The Afghan earthquake of Saturday was the deadliest so far this year after the earthquake of Turkey and Syria which killed approximately 50,000 people.

Mullah Saiq, spokesman for ANDMA said on Tuesday  that 2000 houses in approximately 20 villages have been turned to rubble.  He said  "So far, the statistics we have received regarding casualties are unfortunately exceeding 4,000 people. According to our data, in about 20 villages, approximately 1,980 to 2,000 houses have completely collapsed."

Rescue and Aid

The Saturday earthquake hit the country at around 11.10 local time (0640 GMT) afternoon. 1000 rescuers from various institution were on duty to provide relief to the ones to needed.

China, who has improved relations with the Taliban ruled country provided aid of 200,000 US dollars in cash to Afghan Red Crescent.

United Nation's humanitarian office also provided assistance of $5 million worth to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is living in difficult situation. Foreign aid for healthcare dropped after Taliban takeover as well. The earthquake cause cause loss of shelter for people who will be forced to face dropping temperatures.
