According to MacRumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo speculates that Apple might begin assembling the iPhone 17 in India, which would be the company's first venture outside of China for iPhone development.

The entire process, from product conception to mass market production, is called the New Product Introduction (NPI). Historically, Apple has only trusted its Chinese manufacturing facilities with this process, but this might be about to change.

Furthermore, the report emphasizes that, as was previously mentioned, between 12 and 14 % of the iPhones that are distributed globally are made in India.

The iPhone 17's "simplified design," which is anticipated to lessen any possible issues in the development phase, is the reason for the decision to produce it in India.

Apple has been making great efforts lately to move a sizable amount of its manufacturing operations outside of China and diversify its supply chain. The strict COVID-19 regulations in China last year, which forced the closure of the Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou, may be the cause of this action.

As a result, there may be delays for customers during a busy holiday season as this delay impacted the production of the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Kuo stated that Apple will have the chance to strengthen its relationship with the Indian government after this acquisition. This calculated move will benefit future iPhone sales as well as sales of other Apple products in the Indian market and will be crucial to Apple's expansion in the ensuing ten years.

With the acquisition of the Wistron plant close to Bengaluru for about $125 million, Tata Group recently achieved the distinction of being the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones.

By 2024, it is projected that this action will increase the proportion of iPhones made in India to 20–25 %.
