Jaipur: Those accused of harassing women in Rajasthan may be denied government positions, according to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who claims that his government's primary goal is the prevention of crimes against women.

The Chief Minister's stern stance on women's safety comes ahead of the Rajasthan elections.

During a review conference of the law and order situation on Monday, Mr. Gehlot instructed the police to preserve a record of lawbreakers so that action, including denial of government positions, might be taken against them.

"These hooligans will not be tolerated in Rajasthan," the 72-year-old told reporters.

"Hooligans poison the atmosphere of society." So, I commanded yesterday that we take care of these hooligans. Their names will be taken down and forwarded to the personnel selection board and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission. "We will not tolerate those who harass our sisters and daughters," he stated.

The police will keep a record of these people and share it with the staff selection board and the Rajasthan public service commission in order to keep these applicants out of government jobs.
"The act of harassment will be mentioned on their character certificates," according to the official statement.

The BJP has recently targeted the Rajasthan administration in response to many incidences of violence against women in the state. With this latest announcement, the Chief Minister appears to be sending a strong political message about the safety of women.

Just last week, the Chief Minister used data from the Central Government to react to the BJP's criticism of his state's law-and-order situation.

According to estimates from the National Crimes Record Bureau, the BJP-ruled state of Madhya Pradesh had the greatest number of rapes. In terms of crimes against women per lakh population, Assam, "Delhi with UT Police," and Haryana top the list.

During the meeting, he also ordered harsh action against bars and nightclubs that stay open past their regular hours. He stated that in addition to taking action against managers and owners, such outlets' licenses would be revoked for violating the guidelines.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Home Rajendra Yadav, Chief Secretary Usha Sharma, Principal Government Secretary (Home) Anand Kumar, Director General of Police Umesh Mishra, and other top personnel, according to the statement.
