Atal Ji was a person who never denied the development India achieved in 50 years during the Congress rule; rather, he accepted it but was not satisfied with it. He believed that rejecting it would mean taking away the hard work and credit of the farmers, laborers, and even the common citizens who contributed to the country. It's been 5 years since he passed away. Let us remember his contribution to the nation.

Three-time Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was known for his excellent oratory skills. He captured the attention of the audience with his exceptional word choices that stayed with them. He was a poet, a journalist, and a leader, but foremost, he was a proud son of Mother India. He was a true nationalist who focused not only on policies but also on policy implementation.

Atal Ji Delivering a Speech

Atal Bihari Vajpayee never gave a chance to complain to anyone. With his personality, he was not only adored by his fellow party leaders but also by opposition leaders. When he delivered his speech, other leaders would patiently listen to him. He was friends with both sides, earning respect from all.

He was behind many great things that we see today - first was the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party itself. When the Bharatiya Jan Sangh split from the Janata Dal Party, Atal Ji played a crucial role in the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Atal Ji even announced the Chandrayaan Program, and today India has sent its 3rd Chandrayaan Mission.

The Poet Prime Minister is also credited for laying the foundation of the Delhi Metro as he wanted people to enjoy basic facilities. The New Delhi Metro has become a lifeline for Delhiites.

India as  Nuclear Power- Vision of Atal Ji

Atal Bihari Vajpayee also made India a proud nuclear nation in 1998 and strongly believed in the policy of 'no first use'. He wanted to see India stand strong in the world and not be intimidated by countries with nuclear weapons. His dedication to testing nuclear weapons can be understood from the fact that he even considered testing the weapon during his 13-day tenure but later halted it.

Atal Ji- Respected by all

The charisma of Atal Ji can be understood through the words of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who believed that one day Atal Ji would become India's PM - a destiny that came true. Former late President Shri Pranab Mukherjee admired Atal Ji after his demise by writing in a letter to Vajpayee's daughter, 'A democrat to the core, Atal Ji dominated the opposition space like a titan and led the government with aplomb. An inheritor and practitioner of the best traditions and qualities of leadership, his demise marked the loss of a great son for the nation.' An era that will forever be fondly remembered has passed away.

Atal Infrastructure

Apart from these accomplishments, the late Prime Minister also laid the foundation for the extensive road infrastructure the country enjoys today. In 2001, he announced the Golden Quadrilateral project, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, along with the North-South and East-West corridors. The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) for increasing the lanes of National Highways to 4 and 6 was also initiated by Atal Ji.

Not just highways, the three-time PM also increased rural connectivity with the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

He played a vital role in improving the state of education in the country by launching the 'Pradhan Mantri Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' in 2001, which provided free education to children between the ages of 6 and 14, resulting in a drastic 60% reduction in school dropout rates in India.

Under the prime ministership of Shri Atal Ji, the Indian economy flourished as well. India's GDP was 8% during his tenure from 1998 to 2004.

It would take a long time to list all his accomplishments. The reason he is credited with so much work is his willingness to take the country to new heights; he was a true nationalist and a leader more than a politician.
