BJP Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Transferring Doctors as Retaliation
The BJP has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of moving 43 senior doctors to punish them for seeking justice in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the police are threatening legal action against those protesting the incident. The BJP claims that the TMC government is trying to cover up the crime to protect the culprits.
Impact on Doctors
Among the transferred doctors are Dr. Sangeeta Paul and Dr. Supriya Das, who worked at the hospital where the victim’s body was found. Doctors' groups have criticized these transfers as an attempt to intimidate medical professionals and suppress their voices.
Political and Public Response
The BJP also claimed that TMC spokesperson Santanu Sen was removed for speaking out about issues at the hospital. On Friday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accompanied by several MPs, led a rally to demand justice for the victim. She has given the CBI a deadline to solve the case and blamed the BJP-Left alliance for stirring up protests.

Violence at the Hospital
Tensions rose when a mob attacked RG Kar Hospital early Thursday, destroying areas where junior doctors were protesting. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide strike, halting services from 6 am on August 17 to 6 am on August 18, in response to the violence.
The situation remains highly charged, with ongoing disputes between the government, medical professionals, and the public. As calls for justice grow louder, the focus remains on resolving the case and addressing the broader issues of accountability and transparency in the handling of such sensitive matters. The coming days will be crucial in determining how the authorities will address these allegations and restore confidence in the system.
