The president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Mizoram unit, Vanlalhmuaka, asserted on Monday that his party is poised to be a significant participant in the upcoming government in the state as the vote counting for the 40 assembly seats progressed.

In an exclusive statement to PTI, Vanlalhmuaka stated his conviction that the BJP would secure a minimum of three seats. "We are certain that we will win three seats. We are expecting more than five seats. Let's wait for the results," he remarked.

Vanlalhmuaka confidently declared, "The BJP will participate in the new government which will be formed soon." In the preceding 2018 assembly polls, the BJP had secured a single seat. This time, the party fielded candidates in 23 seats.

As the counting of votes kicked off at 8 am under tight security, exit polls suggested a potential hung assembly in Mizoram, with no party projected to secure a clear majority.

Despite the ruling Mizo National Front's (MNF) previous affiliation with the BJP-led North-East Democratic Alliance in the region and its support for the NDA at the Centre, both parties maintained a distance from each other in the state.
