Joshimath, where 868 structures have developed fractures and 181 have been deemed hazardous, is about 13 kilometers from the building collapse site.

Late on Tuesday night, a structure collapsed in Helang near Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, killing one person but saving five others.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reported that after recovering one body from the rubble, they were still looking for a second individual who might be trapped beneath the debris.

The seven residents of the structure, according to SDRF inspector Harak Singh, were employed at a nearby crusher facility on the banks of the Alaknanda River. Anmol, one of them, who was in his 20s, passed away. While working to free one trapped individual, five people were saved and taken to the hospital.

13 miles separate Joshimath, where 868 structures have developed cracks and 181 have already been deemed dangerous, from the building collapse scene. Five households from Joshimath's Sunil Ward were relocated to relief camps this month out of concern for the continued instability of buildings brought on by the torrential rains.

Residents discussed dangers to the town during the monsoon season with district magistrate Himanshu Khurana at a meeting in June.

Residents of Joshimath postponed the planned Tuesday Independence Day relaunch of their agitation for their rehabilitation under the auspices of Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti (JBSS).

On August 21, a Mahapanchayat (grand assembly) was called. Beginning the following day, the impacted families intend to hold daily sit-ins.

After chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami gave them assurances of concrete action, the residents halted their 107-day agitation. The promise was made when the Samiti requested that the Rishikesh-Badrinath route be blocked on April 27, the first day of the Badrinath Yatra.

To remind the administration of its commitments, the Samiti organized day-long rallies throughout the course of the next three months. JBSS convenor Atul Satil claimed that because they had been duped, they were forced to restart the agitation.
