Canadian Member of Parliament, Chandra Arya, expressed deep concern on Monday about the increasing threat posed by pro-Khalistani elements targeting Hindu temples. Arya urged authorities to take swift action against hate crimes affecting Hindu-Canadians.

In his statement, Arya highlighted recent disruptive incidents and acts of vandalism targeting Hindu temples by Sikh extremists. He specifically pointed to a video where a pro-Khalistani activist threatened to protest inside the Laxmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey. Arya emphasized that such actions were not isolated, citing a pattern of attacks on Hindu temples in recent years.

“All these are being done in the name of freedom of speech and expression. Like a broken record, I am again asking Canadian authorities to step in and take action,” wrote Arya on X (formerly Twitter).

Arya stressed that hate crimes against Hindu-Canadians have occurred multiple times in recent years and allowing such incidents to happen openly and publicly is unacceptable.

Last week, reports emerged of Khalistan supporters verbally abusing a Sikh family in Abbotsford during an Indian High Commission event when they tried to retrieve India's national flag from the ground.

Sukhi Chahal, a US-based Sikh leader, commented on the incident, saying, “This distressing incident serves as a stark reminder to the mainstream silent Sikh community that these self-proclaimed Khalistanis believe they have the liberty to abuse and threaten anyone under the guise of free speech and freedom of expression.”

India has consistently raised concerns about the surge in pro-Khalistani activities on Canadian soil and the targeted attacks on Hindu temples. In August, a Hindu temple was vandalized with Khalistan referendum posters featuring images of the designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In April, the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Windsor, Ontario, was also vandalized with anti-India graffiti.
