On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a polygraph test on Sanjoy Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a female doctor from RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer for the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10, a day after the doctor’s body was discovered in a seminar hall at the medical college.

Investigation into Financial Scams

The CBI has also launched an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. These allegations involve former principal Sandip Ghosh. On Sunday, CBI’s anti-corruption branch raided around 15 locations in Kolkata and the nearby Howrah district, including Ghosh’s residence.

Details of the Polygraph Tests

Sanjoy Roy’s lie-detection test was performed at Kolkata's Presidency Jail, where he is being held. The test lasted about four hours. The CBI also conducted polygraph tests on several other individuals at their Kolkata office. Four other people, including Ghosh, underwent similar tests on Saturday. Although the results cannot be used as direct evidence in court, they are expected to guide the investigation further.

Searches and Questioning

In addition to the polygraph tests, CBI teams searched locations linked to Sandip Ghosh and 14 other individuals in connection with the corruption probe. Ghosh is accused of misusing unclaimed corpses, selling biomedical waste, and securing tenders for a commission during his tenure as principal.

The CBI questioned Ghosh at his residence from 8 am to 7 pm. The team had to wait about 90 minutes before Ghosh opened the door. Other individuals, including former medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and a forensic medicine professor, were also questioned about their knowledge of the alleged financial irregularities.
