Andaman Nicobar Port Blair: 'Shri Vijayapuram' a new name given to Port Blair. Today Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced this through a post on Instagram, While the Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, 'Inspired by the resolve of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to free the country from all symbols of slavery, so decided to rename Port Blair as 'Shri Vijayapuram.
Central government changed the name of Port Blair
The Union Minister has given new name to Port Blair is'Shri Vijayapuram' this name reflects our struggle for independence and the contribution of Andaman and Nicobar in independence. However the city was named after Captain Archibald Blair, a British colonial naval officer of the East India Company.

Port Blair rename as Sri Vijayapuram
The central government on Friday announced that it has decided to rename Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as Sri Vijayapuram. In a post on X, Union Minister Amit Shah said, "To free the country from colonial imprints, today we have decided to rename Port Blair as Sri Vijayapuram.
The new name define victory in our freedom struggle
In the meanwhile Union Minister says that name Sri Vijayapuram symbolizes the victory in our freedom struggle and the unique role of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in it." The Union minister further said in the post that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a unique place in India's freedom struggle and history.

While the island territory served as a naval base during the Chola Empire, now it is considered an important base for strategic and developmental aspirations. He concluded, "It is also the place where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ji hoisted the tricolor for the first time and it is also the Cellular Jail where Veer Savarkar and freedom fighters fought for an independent nation.
