The Congress party has unveiled its list of candidates for 11 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, including some notable names from the state's political landscape.

Key Candidates Revealed

Among the candidates are three sitting MLAs, one former Member of Parliament, and three ex-legislators. The announcement came on Thursday night, bringing the total number of declared Congress candidates in Gujarat to 17 out of the 24 constituencies it plans to contest.

Notable Contests

In what promises to be a high-profile contest, Sonal Patel, an architect by profession and former president of the Gujarat Congress women's wing, will challenge Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Other significant nominations include Amit Chavda, MLA from Anklav, who will contest from Anand, and Gulabsinh Chauhan, MLA from Lunawada, who will vie for the Panchmahal seat.

Tribal leader Tushar Chaudhary, MLA representing Khedbrahma, will contest from Sabarkantha. Former MLA and ex-Leader of Opposition Sukhram Rathva will run for the Chhota Udepur seat.

AAP Alliance and Notable Omissions

The Congress has also allotted two seats, Bhavnagar and Bharuch, to its ally AAP in the INDIA bloc, out of the total 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat.

However, the party's national spokesperson Rohan Gupta, initially nominated for Ahmedabad East, withdrew from the race. This follows the party's failure to secure any seats in the 2019 polls.

BJP's Preparations

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has announced 22 candidates so far in Gujarat for the upcoming single-phase elections scheduled for May 7.
