COVID-19 Update: Maharashtra registers 131 new cases, 10 cases linked to JN.1 variant
On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 131 fresh cases of COVID-19, as indicated by the state's health department. However, the count of individuals infected with the JN.1 variant remains stable at 10.
According to the Public Health Department of Maharashtra, a substantial number of COVID-19 patients, totaling 80,23,576, have successfully recovered and been discharged. The state boasts an impressive recovery rate of 98.17%, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.81%. Out of a total of 8,76,33,748 laboratory samples tested, 81,72,836 have returned positive for COVID-19, accounting for 9.33% of the samples.

Since the beginning of the year 2023, Maharashtra has recorded 137 COVID-19 deaths. A significant proportion, 70.80%, occurred in individuals over 60 years of age. Of the deceased, 84% had comorbidities, while 16% did not have any underlying health conditions.
In a related update, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj shared that the capital recorded 10 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, with no instances of the new variant detected so far. Minister Bhardwaj highlighted a pattern where an increase in cases in South India tends to be followed by a rise in cases in North India.
According to the latest health report, Delhi conducted 599 tests, with 10 samples testing positive. Minister Bhardwaj reassured the public that currently, only six COVID-19-positive patients are admitted to hospitals in Delhi, and the majority of cases are mild. While urging citizens not to panic, he emphasized the importance of taking precautions.
On Saturday, Maharashtra had reported a total of 172 cases of COVID-19, with 10 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant recorded. The highest number of infections was reported from Thane Municipal Corporation, according to data shared by the Public Health Department.
