Mob Lynching of Sadhus

A video shared by Amit Malviya clearly shows Sadhus being dragged and beaten by a mob in Purulia, West Bengal. These Sadhus were stripped of their clothes and brutally beaten by Mobs on the streets of West Bengal. These three Sadhus were traveling to Gangasagar for Makar Sankranti. According to the police, these Sadhus were traveling in a rented Bolero when they stopped their car near 3 girls whowere headed towards Kali Mata Mandir for Pooja.

Due to some miscommunication owing to language differences, those girls thought that the Sadhus were following them. A Mob of people then attacked those Sadhus, stripping and Beating them. Later the police arrived at the spot and handled the situation.

Both sides filed complaints about each other.

BJP alleged TMC

Bhartiya Janta party alleged TMC for the deteriorating conditions of law and order in the state. BJP even accused that the people who lynched those Sadhus were connected with TMC. It further said that under the rule of TMC, Hindus are not safe in the state by saying that "it's a crime to be a Hindu in West Bengal."

"BJP twisting facts" says TMC

Answering the allegations, TMC defended itself by saying that the BJP has been twisting the narrative and misrepresenting the facts. Explaining the whole situation Shashi Panja said that the locals beat up the Sadhus because they thought that the Sadhus were kidnapping those girls. The police later controlled the situation and took the Sadhus into custody.  She said, "An investigation is on, but BJP leaders in Purulia are trying to misrepresent and malign the whole incident."

Police arrested 12 people in Purulia

Upon receiving the information, the police reached the location and controlled it. Purulia SP, Avijit Banerjee said that the "police provided the Sadhus with all possible assistance. A case has been initiated on the complaint by Sadhus. 12 people have been arrested so far and an investigation is underway."

BJP honoring the Sadhus

After the incident unfolded, BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahto met the Sadhus and facilitated and assured them of their safe return. BJP also accused Anwar Sheikh who is related to TMC of being behind the incident.

Purulia resembling Palghar Case

The case in Purulia is resembling to the Palghar, Maharashtra case where 3 people including 2 sadhus were beaten to death by villagers who beat the Sadhus on the grounds of theft. 110 people were arrested in the case. BJP is saying that the Purulia case is resembling the Palghar case which occurred in Maharastra during the term of Uddhav Thakrey and this case in Purulia occurred during the term of CM Mamta Banerjee. West Bengal has often been the witness of various communal violence related to the Hindu community. CM Mamta Banerjee is often alleged to be running a Hindu-phobic government.
